Candida Diet Guidelines
- What My Anti-Candida Diet Was
- My Story
The Candida diet guidelines I followed were challenging but worthwhile.
This holistic diet plan basically had me eating whole, unprocessed foods.
Every food choice was based on not feeding the Candida yeast overgrowth.
The goal of this
simple candida diet was to kill
the yeast, not feed the yeast.
These Candida diet guidelines formed one critical
part of my yeast infection treatment.
My anti-candida diet followed 3 phases. Here is a summary of what I did and how long it took.
The Candida Diet Guidelines from The first time...
Phase 1
Start date: January
Candida levels: 10+
Foods I avoided:
all white sugar, white flour, soft drinks etc - all junk food
all vinegar containing food, condiments and sauces
all sugars and sugar containing food, chocolate, honey, molasses, malt, carob, and maple syrup
all yeast containing foods
all fruit and fruit juices including dried and candied fruits
eating the same foods 2 days in a row
packaged and processed foods
alcohol
processed and smoked meats
coffee and tea - herbed teas ok
nuts
leftovers - unless frozen
I had only 1 serving of high glycemic index vegetable
(such as corn, peas, squashes, lima beans, white and sweet potatoes and beans)
or a grain such as rice, barley, millet at each meal
I ate dairy in moderation but avoided all hard and processed cheeses, and no sour cream
Phase 2
Phase 2 - March
I still avoided all of the these foods:
Foods I avoided:
all white sugar, white flour, soft drinks etc - all junk food
all vinegar containing food, condiments and sauces
all sugars and sugar containing food, chocolate, honey, molasses, malt, carob, and maple syrup
all yeast containing foods
all fruit and fruit juices including dried and candied fruits
eating the same foods 2 days in a row
packaged and processed foods
alcohol
processed and smoked meats
coffee and tea - herbed teas ok
nuts
leftovers - unless frozen
In moderation, this means only 4-5 times a week, I added in:
yogurt, butter, buttermilk, sour cream
yeast breads or other baked goods
one serving of fruit per day but not juice
milk and soft cheeses
Foods I needed to really watch out for throughout the whole anti-candida diet and did not start eating until I was clear were:
wheat
rye
buckwheat
oats
cashews
chocolate
coffee
melons
apples
bananas
grapes
beef
whey
sugar
baker's yeast
brewer's yeast
mushroom
white potatoe
Once I was clear, I gradually introduced all of these foods and could eat anything in moderation. I had no dietary
restrictions or challenges.
By Mid April, I was Candida free.
It took 3 and a 1/2 months.
Candida levels: 0
The Candida Diet Guidelines from The second time...11 years later...
Phase 1
Start date: April 2
Candida levels: 10+ but now add in dysbiosis, monilia and parasites - yikes!
Like the first time on an anti-Candida diet, these are the foods I avoided:
all white sugar, white flour, soft drinks etc - all junk food
all vinegar containing food, condiments and sauces
all sugars and sugar containing food, chocolate, honey, molasses, malt, carob, and maple syrup
all yeast containing foods
all fruit and fruit juices including dried and candied fruits
eating the same foods 2 days in a row
packaged and processed foods
alcohol
processed and smoked meats
coffee and tea - herbed teas ok
nuts
leftovers - unless frozen
This time around, in addition to following the Candida diet guidelines above, I also needed to really watch out for and avoid these foods during phase 1:
corn
wheat
oats
rice
cow's milk
lactose
cheese
lactoalbumin
casein
apricot
orange
raspberry
strawberry
bananas
soya beans
garlic
mushroom
onion
peppers
white potatoe
tomatoe
almonds
peanuts
beef
pork
alcohol
chocolate
coffee
fructose
honey
sugar
black tea
vinegar
baker's yeast
brewer's yeast
aspartame
msg
sodium benzoate
sodium metabisulfite
sodium phosphate
tartrazine
Phase 1 took 50 days - 7 weeks and 1 day.
Phase 2
Start date: May 22
Candida levels: 2 - this was a HUGE drop from over 10 to 2 - yippee!
monilia was cleared, dysbiosis and parasites were mildly present
I still avoided these foods, I did not change much from phase one except introducing yeast back in:
all white sugar, white flour, soft drinks etc - all junk food
all vinegar containing food, condiments and sauces
all sugars and sugar containing food, chocolate, honey, molasses, malt, carob, and maple syrup
all fruit and fruit juices including dried and candied fruits
eating the same foods 2 days in a row
packaged and processed foods
alcohol
processed and smoked meats
coffee and tea - herbed teas ok
nuts
leftovers - unless frozen
During phase 2 I did the Candida diet guidelines above, and I only had to avoid these foods:
wheat
cow's milk
lactose
cheese
lactoalbumin
casein
alcohol
chocolate
coffee
sugar
aspartame
msg
sodium metabisulfite
tartrazine
Phase 2 took 32 days - 4 weeks and 4 days
Phase 3
Start date: June 25
Candida levels = 0 - parasites = 0 and only mild dysbiosis remained
Phase 3 lasted 90 days - 3 months. On September 25, I was clear of everything
From this point on, I began to lighten up and introduced alcohol, some sugar, fruit etc into my diet in moderation. It is all outlined on
my Simple Candida Diet Tips page.
I still watch my eating of the following foods, but I don't stress out about it. I more keep it in the back of my mind.
I keep all dairy out, but very occasionally have the other foods. This makes eating out at restaurants or friends much easier
wheat
cow's milk
lactose
cheese
lactoalbumin
casein
alcohol
chocolate
coffee
sugar
aspartame
msg
sodium metabisulfite
tartrazine
It took just a little over 5 months,
the second time around to be totally healthy.
Candida levels: 0
Parasites, Dysbiosis, Monilia levels: 0
These were the Candida diet guidelines that I followed. As you can tell, the first time took a little more than 3 months and the second time
a little more than 5 months.
I should tell you too, that once I committed to doing this part of the treatment - I never cheated. I know this seems hard to believe, but I
really never did cheat. I knew that even going off of the diet a little bit would prolong my recovery.
If you find it hard to follow your Candida diet guidelines perfectly, don't stress about it. Just understand that it may take a little longer.
You will still get better, just give yourself a little more time.
