Killing Candida and Treating Yeast Infections - What Treatments To Try or Not

Treatments for Yeast Infection and Curing Candida

Killing Candida is critical to getting relief from the various symptoms of yeast infection.

Try some of these treatments for yeast infections and curing Candida.

C

calcium - Cal-Mag Citrate

calcium-magnesium citrate

During my Candida treatment, I took 800 mg a day of Calcium to help with killing Candida and supporting my weakened immune system.

Because I don't drink milk or use any dairy products, it felt right to supplement my diet with calcium. This cal-mag citrate is fizzy when mixed with water - which I like. (For those who don't like fizzy drinks, you can just let it sit until the fizz is gone.)

This combination is easily absorbed by our bodies. The magnesium balances the calcium.

It is common for people with Candida to be lacking calcium in their diets.

Also, our bodies use oxygen and calcium to maintain an alkaline balance which discourages Candida.

I take as directed which is 1 scoop per day mixed in 6 oz water. It is best to take it 1/2 hour before bed, but I find I often will forget, so I usually take it in the morning.

It is easy to find at numerous local stores or online and is affordable.

calamine lotion

calamine lotion for treating yeast infections

As you likely guessed, I tried calamine lotion to deal with my itchy skin rashes. It only offered temporary relief and the itchiness came back quickly.

This topical ointment does nothing for killing Candida.

calendula cream

calendula cream for treating vaginal cuts

I tried calendula cream for treating yeast infection symptoms.

I hated the smell of the cream and only had temporary relief.

I didn't use it for long and now it sits in our medicine cabinet waiting to be used for any minor skin irritations the kids may have. (I don't think they will like the smell either!)

Canesten

This over the counter (OTC) anti-fungal cream is readily available at grocery stores, drug stores, even some corner stores and online.

I've used it for killing Candida, yeast infections and small skin rashes that would appear on my skin under my waistband, in patches on my arms or behind my knees.

It did give some relief and controlled the itching wherever applied.

But, it comes in quite small tubes, so applying on my skin could get costly.

Also, people can build up a tolerance to antifungal drugs, so I didn't like overdoing it.

However, it was perfect in a pinch and fits easily into a purse or pocket.

citrus seed extracts (citricidal)

grapefruit seed extract for treating yeast infections

I used this as directed on the bottle.

It is very expensive to initially purchase (my bottle was over $20), but it lasts forever since you only use a few drops at a time.

It tastes horrible and you really have to brace yourself when you drink it.

I drink lots of water after drinking it.

I do feel it helps though and try to take some on a fairly regular basis. It is an easy to use, awful tasting anti-fungal, but a simple and effective remedy for killing Candida.

I usually take 5 drops in an 8oz glass.

cortisone cream

I used cortisone cream on my skin rashes. It did not seem to make any difference or help at all for me.

D

dandelion tea/coffee

dandelion tea is candida friendly

I drank this herb tea, but it seemed too coffee like to me. I don't drink coffee and found this tea a little strong.

Coffee drinkers may really enjoy it though.

diaper cream (Penaten brand)

penaten cream for candida infections

I tried using penaten cream on my skin rashes and it worked ok. It is hard to rub in and so it can be messy.

However, some people find it worked very well to deal with vaginal itching and cuts.

It does not work for killing Candida, but treats symptoms.

It seems to act like a barrier and help the fragile, thin skin in this area heal and be less irritated.

Diflucan

When I was first prescribed Diflucan I was in heaven.

Finally, a simple way for permanently killing Candida.

With Diflucan (also known as fluconazole), I had immediate relief and still could eat everything I wanted.

The only problem was that after a week or so, the symptoms flared up again and I either had to take another Diflucan or use a different kind of treatment.

It didn't seem like a good long term solution. It felt a bit too prescription like for me.

digestive enzymes

digestive enzymes for treating yeast infections

Before going through Candida treatments, I did not understand the role that digestive enzymes had in my whole digestive process. That is, until I started taking some.

I took the digestive enzyme M7+ by NaturPharm as recommended by my naturopath.

I took 1 or 2 capsules (for larger meals) with each meal.

Taking the digestive enzymes helped with the Candida symptoms of bloating, digestive troubles, and to fight Candida.

I noticed a huge difference when I took them and when I didn't.

I digested my food better with very little bloating.

I took digestive enzymes once my system was clear of Candida and for about 6 months after.

Now that I have finished treating and killing Candida and repaired my leaky gut, I don't really take any digestive enymes and I rarely have the above mentioned symptoms.

Now that my immune system is stronger and my intestinal tract isn't inflamed, I am able to digest foods much better.

I do keep some on hand and take them if eating out or travelling to help with the varied foods I encounter.

E

evening primrose oils

essential fatty acids for treating yeast infections

I started using the Efamol brand of Evening primrose oils during my most recent Candida treatment.

I had never taken evening primrose before, but I tested out as sensitive to the fish oils I had been using.

This brand is a bit expensive and harder to find locally for me.

I am considering switching to a more readily available brand, but I also like the fact that I seem to tolerate them so well.

I take 1 per day and usually increase it to 3 per day during the 10 days before my menstrual cycle.

The increased amount is to help with PMS symptoms, mainly moods and water retention.

This essential fatty acid also helps to promote cell membrane growth, but it is not for killing Candida.

F

fish oils - wild salmon oils

essential fatty acids for treating yeast infections

For years I had taken wild salmon or fish oils without any reaction.

Ever since, I had read Barry Sear's Zone eating program, I realized how critical it was to have essential fatty acids as part of my diet.

When, my system became extremely out of whack because of Candida, I became sensitive to many foods and supplements including fish oils.

I would certainly consider reintroducing fish oils into my diet. I only use wild fish oils in the hopes of minimizing toxins and poisons.

It is great and convenient that fish oils are readily available at many local stores.

flax oil

I have used flax oil on my salads or vegetables.

I don't cook with it, but like to add it as a healthy fat source.

Flax oil, or flaxseed oil, is a great antifungal as well. I try to buy only cold pressed flax oil that I keep refrigerated.

flaxseed

organic flax seeds

I like to add 1 tbsp or so of flaxseeds to my vegetables, salad or oatmeal. I try to chew them well and drink lots of water.

It is a digestive aid while killing Candida and helps IBS symptoms.

The added fiber from only 1 tablespoon of flaxseeds is a great addition to my diet.

Killing Candida does not need to be an overwhelming job.
