Symptoms

what is a penis yeast infection

Some symptoms of a penis yeast infection (AKA as candidal balanitis) are:

  • a stinging, tingling or uncomfortable sensation on penis
  • a swollen, red, sore or sensitive penis
  • a reddish rash and itching on the tip of the penis
  • a small blisters on all areas of the penis
  • a spreading rash over groin area
  • a itching and irritation in and around anus and groin area
  • possibly a clumpy discharge from the penis
  • painful erections with dry, cracked skin
  • CAUTION: If it is your first time with these symptoms, you should see a doctor to rule out possible STD's. Some of these symptoms sometimes indicate a sexually transmitted disease (STD) or there may be other causes for your groin rash. It is important to be diagnosed properly and treated.

Unlike women, men can often have Candida overgrowth and not even know it or admit it.

They may experience a few Candida symptoms males get, however, will likely ignore it.

But, it is hard to ignore a penile yeast infection.

    Causes

Whenever we 'catch' something, we often want to know who gave it to us. Why did I get a penile yeast infection? Well, there are many things that may have caused this type of male yeast infection.

Like any yeast infection, a penis yeast infection is an overgrowth of the Candida Albicans yeast. This overgrowth may occur because of two reasons.

Your digestive system may be the cause of your penis yeast infection. It is very common for Candida Albicans yeast to overgrow in your gut - your digestive tract. Once it is in your system, you may develop a variety of symptoms - such as a penis yeast infection.

You may also develop just a localized yeast infection - in other words, a yeast infection all in one spot - such as a penile yeast infection. Candida lives on your skin in a healthy, normal amount, but certain factors can cause it to takeover.

How DID you got this groin rash anyways? The causes of any male yeast infection are the same as a female yeast infection.

You have an overgrowth of yeast in or on your body which can be caused by any of the following:

  • antibiotic use
  • an imbalanced diet
  • a stressful lifestyle
  • a weakened immune system (from diet, stress, illness etc)
  • poor hygiene
  • an infected sexual partner
  • an uncircumsized penis (usually linked with poor personal hygiene)
  • For more detailed information, see Causes of Candida.

    Treatment

You can treat your penile yeast infection in 3 ways.

    1. Home Remedies for Yeast Infections
    2. Prescription Drugs
    3. OTC Creams

    Home Remedies for Yeast Infections:

A natural remedy for yeast infections, like a penis yeast infection, let you treat your symptoms without going to the doctor. Vinegar, tea tree oil, aloe vera, are just a few that you could try. Check out the home remedies for yeast infection section for a detailed description of what to try.

    Prescription Drugs: Yeast Infection Medications

Go to your doctor and get your treatment. There are a number of yeast infection medications that your doctor may prescribe. Nystatin is a drug that works well. Diflucan is another prescription drug, sometimes called a yeast infection pill, that works too. Educate yourself on what yeast infection medications may work for you.

    OTC - Yeast Infection Creams:

Go to your local drugstore or pharmacy. Often by the condom section, is the anti-fungal cream section. (hmmmm, I wonder why?) Although, many of these creams seem to be marketed to just women, these over the counter (OTC) creams have been found to be effective for men with penis yeast infections as well.

For example, Clotrimazole can be applied for candidal balanitis. A brand name that contains this type of antifungal cream is Lotrimin.

Learn about the different OTC - Yeast Infection creams. At the store, read the boxes and talk to the pharmacist to find a cream for you.

Often, doctors will recommend you first try to treat with an OTC cream, before trying a prescription strength medication.

    Permanant Cure:

Do you want to get rid of this common male yeast infection for good? The only way to do that is to make some changes to how you are doing things now.

If you want to make sure you don't get this penis yeast infection back, again and again - it is a great idea to attck the most common source of candida yeast overgrowth. Consider following these 5 easy steps to do just that:

    1. Symptom Relief - see home remedies, prescription drugs, and OTC creams.
    2. Kill the Yeast - see home remedies, prescription drugs, and OTC creams.
    3. How To Boost Immune System Health
    4. Balanced Healthy Diet and Nutrition
    5. Health Benefits of Probiotics - even if all you do is start eating live, active yogurt once a day - you will have taken a huge step to re-introducing some good bacteria back into your digestive system. Candida becomes a bad bacteria when it takes over. Candida hates probiotics, which are the good guys, the good bacteria.

You can get probiotics back into your diet by eating healthy, plain, unsweetened yogurt with live bacterial cultures (check the label). Avoid sweetened yogurts, because Candida loves sugar.

There are even probiotic drinks, supplements, and powders - the choice is yours. You can buy probiotics everywhere nowadays. Online, at your grocery store, drug store or health food store. The key is just do it. It will help your whole digestive system get back to optimum working order.
