Vaginal thrush occurs when something causes the Candida yeast to overgrow.

Maybe you love candy.

antibiotics vaginal itching

Maybe you have had to take antibiotics repeatedly over the last little while.

These three things alone can be contributing factors for the Candida Albican's yeast in your vagina to overgrow causing a vaginal yeast infection.

The yeast is already present in your vaginal area, certain conditions and causes make it grow out of control.

Here is a list of possible vaginal yeast infection causes:

  • Poor eating habits such as a high sugar diet
  • Diabetes (abnormal carbohydrate metabolism) and uncontrolled blood sugar that is high,
  • Lack of sleep - fatigue
  • Hormonal fluctuations - often get one right before period, from Menopause, Birth control pills, Pregnancy
  • Weakened immune system and illness
  • Lactose intolerance and/or food sensitivities
  • Douching (this disturbs the normal acidity of vaginal secretions and healthy bacteria)
  • Steroids
  • Stress
  • Antibiotics - in particular broad spectrum
  • Clothing that doesn't breathe or is too tight causing a warm, moist area which is a perfect breeding ground for yeast
  • Scented sanitary products, cleaning products or lotions
  • Poor hygiene
  • Obesity
  • Wet conditions
  • HIV positive or immuno-defiency

  • Although vaginal thrush is common and happens to most women - don't ignore it.

With prompt treatment, your symptoms and vaginal yeast infection should clear up.

If it doesn't, don't be shy about talking to your health care provider. This is their job. Tell them your symptoms with as much detail as possible.

Think about what from the list of causes you could do differently to prevent an infection from reoccuring.
